520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. |
Summary, etc. |
The last edition of this classic work on the Law of Criminal Procedure was published in the year 2015, soon after the publication of the book, the book went out of print. In view of the persistent and pervasive demand of the book, the publishers have come out with the present new/revised edition of the book within a short span of time.<br/>The commentary being most exhaustive, authoritative is favorite of the Bench, the Bar and the student fraternity. The first edition of the book was published in the year 1873, for more than 140 years the book holds the field. The clear, lucid, facts-based exposition of law and its systematic arrangement distinguishes this legal classic from other books on the subject.<br/>Of late the nature of crime has changed, brutality is writ large in the commission of the offences. The victims are thrown out of the running bus, train, on the railway tracks and an set on flames.<br/>By CrPC Amendment Act 13 of 2013 more stringent restrictions have been put on tin adjournment of the cases. Amended Section 309 CrPC mandates that in every enquiry 01 trial, the proceedings shall be conducted/continued from day-to-day. It takes years before i trial of a criminal case reaches its finality in the final Court of the country. Death penalty imposable in rarest of rare cases or life imprisonment for rest of the convict's life have no deterrent effect. Fair trial is speedy trial. There is imperative need for expeditious disposal of cases at trial stage and appellate stage. If cases are decided promptly, appropriate punishment is awarded and executed without delay, it might have punitive and deterrent effect. It would also provide justice to the incidental victims of crime - the family members of the decease* persons, The agony suffered by family of the victim cannot be ignored in any case. ---provided by publisher |
