This 9th edition incorporates the statutory developments and case law evolved after 2018 making it comprehensive and updated. Chapters in the book have been re-examined, updated and, where necessary, rewritten. An attempt has been made to present an account of the underlying fundamentals in light of the evolving case-law jurisprudence. This edition would have not been possible without the research assistance of Mr. Varad S. Kolhe and Mr. Pranay Jaiswal, both students at ILS Law College, Pune. Ms. AR Lakshmithaa and Ms. Nilufer Bhateja of EBC have provided all the support and technical assistance from time to time. The editor of EBC, Ms. Chaitali Bose, has been kind enough to edit my work to make it as flawless as possible. During the Covid-19 pandemic, access to online legal databases provided by the ILS Law College Library made my task easy.
