Summary: This book primarily deals with Gandhi’s philosophy of the body, self, and the other, as well as their interrelationship. Having been a practical idealist, for him these three notions were not merely abstract ideas for philosophical speculations, but also had practical implications. Repositioning Gandhi’s philosophy in contemporary context on the aforementioned themes may help us to reframe our view of the world in an era when the body has become an ‘end in itself’, the self has centered on personal ‘interest’, and the other is viewed as ‘radically different’ from oneself. CONTENTS • Self/Other and Gandhi • Freedom and Responsibility • Resistance and Courage • The Body as the Other • Embodiment and the Other • Gandhi in Contemporary Context ABOUT THE AUTHOR / EDITOR Prem Anand Mishra is Dean of the Faculty of Gandhian Studies at Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad where he teaches several courses on Gandhi’s philosophy and political thought.
